Hello guys, back again with this series I started working with Philemon 1:6. We want to acknowledge some of the changes that exist in a Christian’s relationship with God through Salvation to improve the effectiveness of our faith walk. See previous post HERE
That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus
Today the focus of this post will revolve around the importance of knowledge and to do so I will share a story that will explain my motivation for this series.
The Truth you KNOW will set you FREE – Jesus
Once Upon a time, there was a boy born out of wedlock and given up by his mother, dropped by the bin of an orphanage, nameless and with no origin. Taken in by the orphanage he was named John, the young lad lived a happy live in that orphanage growing up with many kids just like him, everyone and everything he knew about life were in the four walls of the orphanage and nowhere else. He never had the privilege of going to restaurants, or enjoying luxuries other children in families were privileged to enjoy.
John woke up every weekend with a special smile on his face for one very simple reason “Movie day”. That excited him because at the orphanage that was his only chance weekly to see a picture of what life outside those walls could have been for him, he watched little children like him enjoy a good meal, a fun day out with their family and many other things he longed for as a child. Those little moments which never lasted long he held so dearly wishing one day he would be lucky enough to live that way. Thankfully one day John’s dream became a reality when a very wealthy couple Mr and Mrs Gates who couldn’t have children decided to adopt a child from that small orphanage. As faith will have it they fell in love with John and decide to take him in as a son.
Finally little John had everything he ever wanted and dreamed of as a little child. He had a parents, and they were very wealthy too and filled with so much love, John was living the movie kind of life and it felt even better in reality. John’s reality lasted for a couple of years till tragedy struck when he was 17 and he lost his sweet loving adopted parents in a tragic car accident. It was like the end of the world had come for John, in his movies the kids parents always lived long enough to take care of them but he was left an orphan again at the tender age of 17. However, there is good news his lovely Parents left all they had in his name and he was to receive every single thing they owned immediately he turned 18. Since John was young Mr and Mrs Gates put a temporary guardian Mr Agu to oversee the payment of his fees and to monitor how he used the property till he was of age. They made sure he could not have access to his money, properties or any legal document all he could do was authorize payments for his fees and his well being till he became of age.
A few months later John had his 18th year old birthday and he had a lovely time with his friends but unfortunately his parents will was not fulfilled as Mr Agu didn’t give him his inheritance but instead decided to find a way to take what was entitled to John. Living beneath his means for 4 years right after John’s 21 year old birthday party after his graduation from college Mr Agu his guardian who he loved as a father told him the truth about his inheritance and how he tried and failed to take it away from him for years. John was shocked, angry but at the same time happy because of the good news he just heard. Since he was always a contented lad he could focus on the good and easily forgive. But he knew he had to read the will and know every single property his parents left in his name. He was a little sad he lived a few years not enjoying all he had inherited from his Parents, he had to constantly beg his guardian to send him money, he couldn’t touch his cars or any property he owned, he lived like a beggar in his own house when he owned it all. But alas he had it all not because he didn’t before but because he finally found out.
Why did I share this story?
Galatians 4:1, 7
1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
As Christians the same way John was ignorant that he was living in wealth that was his for years that is the same way many of us believers live. Paul in Galatians chapter 4 was addressing our identity in and through Christ and he started off by saying a son that doesn’t know of his inheritance differs not from a servant just like John in my story above. A lot of Christians are ignorant of the totality of what we inherit in Christ by his death and resurrection, and we live substandard lives struggling and arguing over irrelevant matters that simple information will solve. We keep faking what we think a Christian should look like instead of living it as a nature that comes naturally. John could drive any car in his house, he could withdraw money anytime but he couldn’t, not because they were not available but because he didn’t know they were. Every Christian has a right standing with God, we are 100% always righteous to God but the problem is many do not know. We go ahead pray and sing to have a new heart like David desired when we have one already in Christ, we pray and believe for a new Spirit when we have the Spirit of God within us, we pray and sing begging for holiness and righteousness when that is who we are by default after salvation through Jesus, there are many other things we are that we keep begging for, trying to walk in them by our efforts when all we need to do is know the truth and walk in it. Everyday Christians pray like David, Elijah, Moses and many other saints of the Old Covenant acting like Jesus never died and changed everything.
Like John in the story above every born again believer was without God and the devil could keep us in bondage but luckily for us many years ago God sent his only Son to earth so He would be able adopt us (Ephesians 1:5) as his children and through the death and resurrection of Jesus it became a possibility. By Jesus’s death we became heirs to His Will/Covenant having full access to every blessing promised to Abraham in the scriptures, the beauty of adoption is in knowing you were Chosen. Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo shared an illustration that blessed me and I know it will bless you too, here it goes. When a couple have a child they have no idea how the baby will be or look but they have no choice than to accept the child even if born with any deformity, if their child comes out without a limb or eye that’s what they got and that’s what they will take home but if that same couple were to adopt a child you can bet they will pick the best looking child in the orphanage, it will be a careful selection and their aim will be to pick as close to perfection as they can.
Friends that is what God did, he had a choice and he decided to choose you and I, he chose to adopt us as children heirs to His kingdom and therefore with that in mind you must realize how precious you are to whom. He loves you so much because he saved and chose you.
Adoption is an instant gift of love from the parents, the process might take time but the love is immediate. It took Jesus birth, death, burial and resurrection for we get adopted and thankfully the process is already done all you and I have to do is receive and accept it by believing.
We need to study the epistles more and discover our identity in Christ so we can live the life God has called us to live with ease and resting in his Grace. Right believing always comes before right living.
Knowing who you are will settle trivial matters like sin, the devil and any other thing we believers stress over. There is one prayer Paul prayed in most of his letters and it was a prayer not just for us to be saved, or to fast, or to avoid sin, it was about KNOWING. You can check Colossians 1:9-14, Phil 1:9-11 among many others.
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Paul always prayed for the saints of old to know who they were and everything they had, which included their assurance and hope of salvation in Christ. Every believer today should also know these things because the Truth already exists with Jesus as recorded in John 1:17 which says …..Grace and Truth came through Jesus Christ. Truth came thousands of years ago but till you know these truths you will remain lost in ignorance, swimming and living in abundance, healing and every good spiritual blessing in Christ without manifesting them. That is a substandard life like the one John lived in the story above which I wish for nobody.
The challenge to you is to read the bible everyday to realize how finished the finish work of Jesus Christ is because the purpose of scripture is to make us know we are perfect and from that point help us in our perfection everyday (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The truth of His finished work will bring you freedom.
Thanks for reading through today the next post is going to be another awesome truth on a Christians Identity, watch out for it and refresh yourself with the truth in the previous posts. The first was about your new heart, Read HERE and the second was about your identity as a saint not a sinner which you can read HERE.
Food for thought: You should not search the scripture to do more but to believe more in what is already done by Jesus.
God Bless you and do have a lovely day.
God loves you more than you can ever claim to love him, enjoy His love.
