Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you. This is practically the most anticipated holiday every year for many reasons, some see it as a time to love, to give, to celebrate Christ and also to celebrate the end of the year. Christmas to me means a lot of things which I will talk about in this post; a little bit of my childhood Christmas and how much they all remind me of Jesus Christ the reason for the season.

I recently read something on a friend’s blog about Christmas and it brought many memories to mind on how awesome Christmas was for me as a child, you can read her post HERE it was a nice read. So my childhood Christmas was very lovely, the entire season and holiday was a marathon of love, joy, fun and enjoyment. It included a full house and by full I mean a “Madea family reunion” kind of full. Road trips were involved, games involved and of course plenty of food. I will relate some parts of the celebrations to how they remind me of Jesus and his incredible love to every one of us.

FAMILY

For me my large family was practically the sweetest part about every Christmas as a kid, the thought that I would get to spend the season with my entire family home and abroad brought a large smile to my face I can imagine it did the same to you and I’m pretty sure it still does. The house at Christmas was always full with both the young and the old. Sometimes I got stories on my grand parents and also my parents childhood which was hilarious.

Right now thinking about Jesus ancestors always fascinates me, I will focus on the his genealogy as recorded in the gospel of Mathew chapter 1. One would really expect the son of God to be born in some totally blameless holy royal line of human beings but it is amazing the kind of imperfect people recorded in the lineage of Jesus. Mathew records the history of Jesus as a man and started from Abraham, now I’m less concerned with the great men in this list, imperfect they were but great none the less. I want to focus on the only four women recorded by Mathew in this book which is strange because obviously there were many other women involved in the lineage of Jesus but God saw fit to put these four women Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and Bathsheba. One would think the women in the lineage of the holy one of Israel will be the purest of women or at least the names chosen to be recorded in the Bible amongst all the females would be those of the virgins and saints but No, we have four women who by all accounts were immoral ladies. Tamar committed incest with her father in-law, Rahab was a harlot, Ruth was a Moabite and in those days she was an outcast to Gods people and she had no right to get married to Boaz as it was forbidden for a royal son of Israel at that time, lastly we have Bathsheba a woman who committed adultery with David.

So we see the holy one of Israel came to earth through the lineage of imperfect people and God in his infinite wisdom wants us to recognize this fact. Why? I would say the reason is His grace is bigger than any sin or wrong doing you can imagine so when you read this I want you to know that Jesus didn’t die to use only those without a bad past or present but he shows us that he cherishes every human being on earth and we are all precious in his sight not because of what we do but because of who he is which is merciful. In this season assure people of Gods love by telling them how amongst all the women in our saviours lineage he wanted us to take note of the immoral and outcast, he celebrated them.

It doesn’t matter who you are or what you have done God is so full of grace he can and will use you, there is no point running from him. If he could use a lady who tricked her father in law into getting her pregnant what is it that you have done that you think is to big for God to forgive, wash and use you in spite of it. Don’t run from God, run to him because that was what Jesus came to achieve by coming to earth. He reconciled us to our Abba Father.

So while you spend the break with your family members and you see the imperfection of many of them and how much you love them still I want you to remember that thanks to Jesus, Gods love was committed to all of us even while we were yet Sinners (enemies), not when we did right but when were in the wrong his love was still perfectly waiting for us thanks to Jesus.

Romans 5:8

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

REASON FOR HIS BIRTH

Everyone of us was conceived for different reasons known to our parents and that is the same with Jesus who was born on earth for one reason determined by His father. Jesus was BORN TO DIE. Yes our savior was born to die for you and I.

You know when we were young we received new clothes, watches and many other gifts on Christmas day but you know the greatest gift of all time was given by God, who saw it fit to sacrifice his only son to save you and I, not the angels. It is such an honour to every human on earth, YOU ARE WORTH IT.

Jesus was born in a manger which is as seen in this image, a manger is a feed trough found in a stable. Gods son was born and placed in a simple feed trough just imagine, such a humble beginning for a man that was born to die. Recently I watched a sermon of Pastor Joseph Prince and he made me realize the similarity to how a manger looks to how Jesus tomb looked. This shows one thing, Jesus was placed in something that looked like his purpose on earth; his eventual death.

Jesus is the greatest gift you could give to anyone this Christmas season. God thought you were worth the death of his Son and if you were the only one on earth he would still have sent his Son to die for you because he wants to give you eternal life (John 3:16). Every day his mercy cries No over judgment for the sinner and the righteous that fall into sin.

Eternal life is ours thanks to Jesus, we overcome death and enjoy life to the fullest of our capacity.

CHRISTMAS TREE

Every year a week to Christmas we would have our electrician show up ready to decorate the massive Christmas trees in our compound with bulbs and Christmas lights to get the house feeling like Christmas and it just makes the house look beautiful.

While we hang ornaments on our Christmas trees this year let us remember that Jesus was hanged on a tree (cross) for our sakes to take away every curse and release blessings and only blessings upon every one of us.

Gal 3:13-14

13  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

While we hang ornaments on trees and while we see beautiful ornaments on the Christmas tree in your house I want you to remember that Jesus was hanged on a cross for you and I intentionally and that a tree is the basis for our access to all Gods blessings. He wanted to deliver you from every curse imaginable. On the cross Jesus took away all our sins and made available his righteousness to us, he also made healing ours, rejoice for Jesus succeeded in his quest to redeem us by punishing his own body.

1 Peter 2:24

24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

ROAD TRIP

There was a planned road trip every Christmas to visit some nice place and also friends of the family, it was fun and we always went together with games, food and drinks.

This makes me remember the story of the wise men that brought gifts to baby Jesus, even though Jesus was born in a lowly manger after he was rejected at the inn. These wise men I don’t know how many traveled to present gifts to Jesus and to worship him as a baby. They presented 3 special gifts of great significance to the greatness of Jesus, he was a baby then but he was also fully God at the same time.

Jesus was worthy of those gifts and till today he is still worthy. Worship him everyday.

GRACE

John 1:17

17  For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Jesus came to give grace to the entire world, he expanded his covenant from just the Jews to you and I. His grace is bigger than any sin therefore when you sin you fall into grace and that is all you need to get up and live the life of high standards he destined for you and I. Everything about our relationship with God changes because of this grace. Lets look at some awesome truths about Gods grace.

  • Grace supplies righteousness to we sinful men.
  • Grace does not demand anything of us but faith alone.
  • Grace is unmerited and cannot be bought by money or anything on earth.
  • Grace saves the very worst of us, never feel you are beyond redemption. Everything you need to be saved is to believe in Jesus and his grace will be available to do His work in you.
  • There is a fresh doze of Grace for everyday.
  • Grace is all God at work so rest this season

WHO IS JESUS?

There are many things about Jesus that people always get confused and his existence is barely questioned in most circles because there is more than enough evidence to support his existence on earth but where many miss it is the truth that Jesus was also fully God. Some people believe he was a great prophet, some believe he was a visionary, some believe he was the founder of a religion called Christianity, all this definitions of Jesus are false. Jesus was not a prophet, neither did he create a religion infact most of his disputes were with the religious men of his time and most of his friends were the sinners and outcasts. Jesus came to earth as a son of God to save us and make a personal relationship available for everyone with God. So this is the Jesus I want to re introduce to you, not a prophet or a religious leader but The Christ as Peter called him.

Jesus was referred to by many names in the Bible but I will focus on 2 names Jesus and Immanuel (Matt1:21,23).

Jesus in Hebrew means Yeshua which is translated to mean Saviour. Jesus was born to be our savior in every possible way.

Immanuel which means God with us makes us realize that Jesus didn’t just come to save us but to dwell among us and consequently in us. Jesus is ever present inside everyone who believes in Him and he promises to never leave us nor forsake us.

The awesome thing about His name is everytime we call it we are literally inviting him to save us from every feasible situation, His name is the most powerful name in the universe and the sweeter part is we are not calling on someone who is distant we call on someone who is ever present in our hearts and at our service forever. He is ever present in every situation and he can be everything to you.

What are some of your fond memories of Christmas, share some below in the comment section and you can also write who Jesus is to you in this season, what reminds you of his great love?

From the depth of my heart I wish you a very Merry Christmas and I hope you and your family will enjoy this day to the fullest. Have fun, eat well, be merry and remember Jesus is the reason for the season.

I also want to wish you a Prosperous New Year in advance.
