How To Enter God’s Rest Everyday

How To Enter God’s Rest Everyday

Rest in the Lord imageHebrews 4:11

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

How can you labour to rest, What does this even mean?

Hey guys I am Jide Adekunle and I welcome you to my small little world. Gods will for us is to be at peace at all times by resting in Him. Whenever we hear the word rest we imagine it is what comes after hard work that leads to tiredness, while this is true that’s not the rest in this case. The labour to rest here comes up any and every time and it has nothing to do with getting tired, it involves the struggle to be at peace with that negative situation because you know God has got you. Now that’s rest.

Sounds amazing but it is so easy to miss how to enter into the rest of God, our human mind and senses will always think of our physical efforts to attain this rest but this is not the kind of labour God wants us to do here, it is not an exhausting work but it does take a certain level of believe that only comes with knowledge of who Jesus Christ is.

How to enter into the REST?

The way into the rest is by believing totally in Jesus Christ and what he has achieved for you by his death, burial and resurrection as recorded in the Bible, this leads to relaxing in his faithfulness and finished work irrespective of the situation we find ourselves knowing that Gods promises are Yes and Yes and Yes and Yes and Yes………………..

Hebrews 3:6

But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

Holding fast means the situation may not be ideal but you must work to remind yourself to believe in Jesus no matter what. So knowing the promises in his Word is very important because that knowledge is the confidence you need. That means when you are sick, you smile because even though your body is showing signs of weakness you believe Jesus took away your sickness on the cross, also when you are poor you relax in the believe that The Lord supplies all your needs according to the riches of His Son Jesus Christ(Phil 4:19). Resting is the one work we need to do which is not physical but a work of the heart unto believe in Jesus, because it will always contradict the situation you find yourself.

Who won’t enter into this REST?

Paul was quoting from Psalm 95 inspired by the Holy Spirit which referred to who God swore would not enter his rest.

Hebrews 3:11

So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.

And those people were the Children of Israel during their exodus from Egypt in the wilderness. Therefore from their experience we can learn what they did wrong that made God swear they won’t enter into his rest.

Hebrews 3:19

So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

We can see the reason is clearly because of unbelief rooted in their hearts for different situations they faced be it hunger or thirst or at the face of danger we discover they always forgot God was able to save and provide for them at every turn, they chose to murmur and complain every time. I like to call it circumstantial unbelief because it can exist in someone who believes in Jesus. For instance you believe in God but when you are sick you do not believe he wants you healed which simply means you will take Jesus for his sin cleansing blood but not take him for the stripes he received that healed you. Many other examples exists because it applies to all areas of our lives where we choose to walk only in our 5 senses and understanding and ignore our 6th sense which is faith in Jesus Christ the son of God.

With this in mind many of us are not laboring into this rest that God desires of us just like the children of Israel.

Sin a big unbelief boost

Hebrews 3:13

But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

We always assume the presence of a sinful thought or even a sinful action that we fall into deprives us from the right to believe in Jesus when that is when we should believe in Him more because he never judges us based on our sin or actions but he judges us based on our sacrifice which is Jesus Christ, and through Jesus God always sees us as Righteous, Jesus justifies us.

Sin deceives many believers into disbelief when it should spur us to remember he has already died for every sin we committed or will ever commit (past, present and future). We are qualified for life the moment we get saved, just believe and don’t let sin isolate you from Gods saving Grace. This is also circumstantial unbelief because what you are saying when you think your sin still counts to you is; you will take Jesus for his ability to take all your sins up to the day you get saved, but somehow you imagine when and if you fall into any sin there is a need for a fresh crucifixion. There isn’t because he died “Once and for all” and we have this particular phrase littered over the entire book of Hebrews, Jesus work was perfect and completely complete.

Our high priest Jesus qualifies us to always believe in him and he sympathizes with our weaknesses (Heb 4vs16) because he walked in our shoes. Instead of sinking in the guilt and shame of your sin I want you to know that Jesus already took care of it, smile, get up, say thank you and keep believing.

This Rest does not come from tiredness

This rest we have been promised by God is available to those who believe him for every situation and circumstance.

It is finished imageHebrews 4:4

For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

God rested on the seventh not because he was exhausted, trust me God would not have fainted if he created one extra moon or star, God rested because he had created everything to perfection and there was nothing missing. This kind of rest is the rest you have when you finish doing an awesome work. God rested because there was nothing left to do just like an artist rests when he has finished working on a master piece and he looks at how beautiful it looks.

God is telling us to rest because Jesus has finished all the works for every single circumstance we find ourselves, we have every spiritual blessings for every need we can imagine already available all we need is prayer to bring it to manifestation. Rest because we operate in a finished work and we approach every battle from the stand point of victory, the game of life is rigged in our favour when we believe in God everytime.

Cease from your own work

The only work and labour of a new covenant Christian is believing in the finished work made available by Grace. That believe will lead to an action but the action is not what brings the rest, the belief does that.

Hebrews 4:10

For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

The lesson is to be diligent and not fall into doubt by thinking there is something God cannot take care of, do stuffs, take steps but do it all in believe that Jesus has made a way out already. Knowledge of Gods’ word over every circumstance will help spur believe and remove circumstantial unbelief.

The Labour never ends; always pray

Hebrews 4:16

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

We would always need his grace, therefore this is the one work that never ends because in every circumstance we are required to come boldly to his throne to get help out of any and every situation the world throws at us, or even the ones we get ourselves into. It is very important to note that to obtain grace you must go for it, it is a conscious decision to live by His grace. The natural response to standing on his word is to do so in prayer.

Always fight to believe with knowledge that God never leaves you alone, never ever not in this covenant. This is how we should live everyday and we would always be happy. The peace that comes from God transcends all human understanding when we commit everything to God in prayer (phil 4:7).

Ignore your five senses and that situation and use your sixth sense (Faith) to leave worry and walk into rest by praying.

  • Is there sickness in your body? Rest because by His stripes you were healed.
  • Is there trouble at work? Rest because He said he will turn everything around for your good.
  • Lost a loved one? Rest because we are not like those without hope of never seeing again.
  • Things doesn’t seem to be getting better? Rest because all things work together for your good.
  • It looks impossible? Rest because God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all we can imagine.

Whatever the situation there is a word from God for it and all we need to do is rest while standing on that word.

Thanks for reading through my very first blog post, I hope whatever situation you are facing at this moment you realize you can rest in the knowledge that God has got you completely.
