For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
How can an all knowing God forget something? Does it mean he has a bad memory? Erm NO. God knows everything, therefore forgetting my sins is a choice not something that happens due to a bad memory. You may say but why will a trice Holy God forget my sins? John 1:29b; “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sins of the world.” This is why; Jesus took away everybody’s sin and when he did that on the cross he was punished for it by God. For this reason He cannot remember your sins because that will mean there are some sins Jesus hasn’t taken care of. Jesus said “It is finished” and that statement was also referring to the punishment for the sins of the entire world throughout eternity.
This reminds me of Peter’s experience with Jesus after resurrection. Mark 16:7; “But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.”
A few days before this conversation between an angel and Mary Magdalene, something of note happened. Peter denied Jesus 3 times with cursing and swearing. Mark 14:71; “But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.” Peter realized how wrong he was and he wept subsequently.
Jesus gave Peter a special mention so he could feel assured. Your father knows that when you have this confidence in him you would not be afraid, but instead run to him like Peter did when Jesus appeared unto them (John 21:7), all the other disciples went by boat but Peter was so impatient he swam to Jesus.
Was peter right when he denied Jesus? No. Was he better than Judas? No. The difference is he stayed long enough to let Jesus take care of his sin. I know if you were Jesus the moment you rose from the dead you’d probably tell Peter, “remember I told you, you will deny me?” but Jesus didn’t do that instead he sent special word to the one person who betrayed him after boasting and bragging that he will never do it.
Instead of reminding God about your sins by confessing them every moment of everyday, thank him for choosing to not just forgive but forget them. You can always stand tall in His presence because of Jesus.
This is the assurance you have in Jesus Christ, always. Rest easy he has not only forgiven you, he also forgot about your shortcomings. Run to your daddy and enjoy his love today.
