Focus On Jesus

Focus On Jesus

Hebrews 12:2

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

In this fast paced world it is so easy to loose sight of what matters most. Many times we get so focused on ourselves and our actions, works and deeds and loose sight of who really matter “Jesus”.

The Holy Spirit lets us know through this scripture in Hebrews that Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith, which means without Jesus there is no such thing as faith for anyone. This is very important for a believer to understand because in the previous chapter we realize that all the great men of faith there obtained a good report while looking towards Jesus that they never saw in their lifetime. The promise of his coming or his day is what kept them in faith.

Abraham and all these men received miracles by having faith in the promise of Jesus that they never got to see while we focus on Jesus and his finished work. We live in Jesus day so our attention should be beholding his works on the cross. That is the Jesus we need to set our sights on.

Focusing on Jesus is done by studying the Bible and it is important you realize everything in the Bible is about him. That’s why in John 5:39 Jesus said the entire scriptures testify of him. Therefore we should make it our focus to see what the scriptures in the Old and New testament say about Him. You can find Jesus in every book of the Bible. He is the ark of the covenant in Exodus, In Jonah we see him in type and shadow bringing salvation to an entire city after 3 days in the belly of the fish. There are many more examples focus on Jesus today.

When the focus is Jesus everything becomes small and insignificant. You can easily have faith for healing because you are not looking at yourself but Jesus who didn’t just heal the sick but he also raised the dead. You can always go boldly into God’s presence when your focus is Jesus because you will remember where the bible says he took our sins so we could become His righteousness.

He makes all things easy and that is why when Jesus was with Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42 a hungry Jesus was pleased with Mary focusing on receiving from his divinity more than Martha who was focused on feeding his flesh. Martha didn’t do anything wrong but focus wrongly.

Today and onward live your life focused on the beauty of Jesus, learn to live with him at the center of everything you do. We are complete in Christ never forget that outside him you are nothing. Keep your gaze on him and receive from him like Mary did that day. Do not be focused on your works like Martha.

Thought of the week: Jesus loves when you focus more on him as your saviour than what you can do for him or his kingdom.

Have a blessed week
